Toy Care & Maintenance
Looking after your toys properly helps them stay clean, safe and in good condition for longer. It doesn’t need to be complicated either. A quick clean before and after use, the right lubricant and sensible storage will do most of the work.
Before & After Use
Clean your toy before and after each use with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. You can also use a toy cleaner that is suitable for silicone products. Rinse thoroughly, then dry with a clean, lint-free towel before putting it away.
If your toy has been sitting unused for a while, give it another quick clean before using it. Dust and lint have a remarkable ability to find silicone.
Lubricant
Water-based lubricant is generally the safest choice for silicone toys. It is easy to clean, widely compatible and won’t interfere with the surface of the toy.
Avoid silicone-based lubricants unless the manufacturer specifically says they are compatible with that product. Silicone lube can sometimes react with silicone toys and damage the surface over time.
What to Avoid
Skip harsh soaps, alcohol-based cleaners, heavily scented products and other aggressive cleaning chemicals. They can damage the material or leave behind something you probably don’t want near your body.
It’s also best to keep toys away from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Your bedside drawer is fine. The dashboard of your car in January is less ideal.
Storage
Make sure your toy is completely dry before storing it somewhere clean and dry. Every Dusk and Desire toy comes with a complimentary satin storage bag, so you’ve already got somewhere suitable to keep it.
The bag helps protect your toy from dust, hair and lint while it’s not in use. It’s also a good idea to store toys separately rather than pressed against one another for long periods, as different materials can sometimes react.
A Few Good Habits
Check your toy occasionally for cracks, tears, unusual changes in texture or other signs of damage. If something looks or feels wrong, it’s generally better to replace it than keep pushing your luck.
Other than that, keep it clean, keep it dry and use the right lubricant. Your toy really isn’t asking much of you.
